The lines are too long! How can I get a better show without standing in line for an hour or more.

A: We have made several changes for 2010 to combat the wait times. First, the ticket booths are now located across the street from the haunted house and will open earlier than the haunted house. This will enable you to purchase your tickets early and will speed up the admission line into the haunted house (additionally if you purchase tickets online, you may skip this line entirely).

Second, we have recently restored a third service elevator, so that we can ferry more people down to the basement quicker.

And finally, we have made big changes inside that will eliminate some bottlenecks within the house itself.

However, one of the best ways to not stand in a long line is to simply come early. We open the last weekend of September. If you come the first few weekends, you will miss the crowd and will be able to go into the haunted house with a very small group of people. This translates into a very personal nightmare. Additionally, Thursday nights usually have very small lines.

If you must come on a busy Saturday night, come early or later in the evening. Everyone seems to show up between 8pm-9pm.

Where can I get a coupon?

A: $5 off coupons are available at Raising Canes locations in Baton Rouge and Lafayette, WFMF, and WAFB.

What are the huge Cemetery Gates and Fence next to the Ticket booths in the lot across the street?

Oh...that's a surprise for next year. For the 13th Gate's 10 year Anniversary, we will unveil an all new haunted attraction to Louisiana: 13th Gate Necropolis!

13th Gate Necropolis is a 25,000 sq ft haunted New Orleans style cemetery filled with dark crypts, underground catacombs (yes underground), and, more importantly, the undead.

Stay tuned for more information.

Will I be able to ride the Hellevators?

A: We have worked overtime to get a third old service elevator going so that we will be able to accommodate more people. Barring a catastrophe (like maybe a cable snapping), everyone should be able to ride down to the entrance to the 13th Gate.

I purchased online tickets, can I skip the line?

A: You can skip the ticket booth line but must wait in the admission line. To skip all lines, you must purchase VIP tickets.

Do you have a waiting area?

A: We encourage everyone to wait safely in our fenced lot across the street next to the ticket booths. Within you will find great food, live entertainment, and picnic tables.

Is it scary?

A: Our haunted houses are where your most frightening dreams become reality. As soon as you enter the front door, you will be transported into a realm of terror - a dark twisting maze through rooms populated with creatures from your worst nightmares. Your only goal will be to elude the predators who stalk you through the darkness - to be a survivor, not a victim, of the house.

But is it really scary?

A: Hey, fear is relative. We do our part by providing hands down some of the scariest haunted attractions in Louisiana. Of course everyone has their own particular fear threshold. The best answer we can give is that 99% of the people who come out the back door are screaming or laughing. Our repeat customer rate is very high. Conclusion: being scared is fun? You've got adrenal glands, you be the judge.

If I'm in line at closing time will I still get in?

A: Yes, as long as there are customers, we will stay open.

Is there a different price for children?

A: Because it is not recommended for small children, there is only one general admission price.

Will the monsters touch me?

A: We have a "no touch" policy - you don't touch us, we don't touch you. Unfortunately, due to the very dim lighting inside the haunts, you may occasionally come into accidental contact with one of our staff. Our monsters will not grab or maul you.

Can a pregnant person enter?

A: We do not recommend the haunted house to anyone who is pregnant.

Can I bring my kids?

A: By all means, bring the whole neighborhood! Again, fear is relative. We've had six-year-olds walk through without a quiver and had to carry out grown men. Children under twelve should be accompanied by an adult. Young children who get to the front door and are too scared to enter will not be forced (not even by their well-meaning parents). We do not recommend our attractions for very young children.

Can we win free tickets?

A: In Baton Rouge, listen to WFMF, 102.5FM to win free tickets!; in Alexandria listen to Q93.

What time does the haunted house usually open?

A: Usually we try to open at 6:30pm. Sometimes we might open later but only if we’re experiencing a technical problem for which we’ll delay the opening to fix the problem.

Can I get out if I want to?

A: Yes, many people each night are too scared to make it through the house and are let out by our security staff.

If I get too scared to make it through the haunted house, can I get a refund?

A: No. You paid us to scare you. If you get scared in the line or in the first few rooms and want to leave, we've done what you paid us to do very quickly. Be happy with prompt service!

Do you offer group discounts?

A: Group rates are available for large groups providing the reservation and rate is approved in advance. Call (318) 709-1195 and ask for Dwayne Sanburn (for the 13th Gate) or call (318) 709-1947 and ask for Louis Shove (for The Maize).

Is there a discount for small children?

A: No. We do not recommend our haunted houses for very young children. If you choose to bring them, they will pay the same price as everyone else. Children who are too young or too scared to enter may wait for their party with the door greeter. You might consider picking up a coupon at one of our participating sponsors if cost is an issue.

Is it healthy to get scared really bad?

A: Do you see horror movies? Haunted Houses are just like the movies except YOU are in the movie with the ghouls jumping out at you. Yes, you will get scared but in the end it’s all fun and you’ll come out screaming, but you and your friends will laugh about it afterwards. Most everyone enjoys talking about their experience for years telling stories of how high you jumped out of your shoes. Come on down, we’re waiting.

Are you handicap accessible?

A: Yes.
We have patrons in wheelchairs visit us every year. Anyone wanting to tour the attractions with a handicap needs to let the ticket booth know for any special instructions. A staff member will accompany your group to assist you if you need it. In order to maintain our high safety standards, we do not recommend taking crutches and other such devices into the building. If you must use them, a staff member will accompany your group.

Are your attractions open if it rains?

A: Absolutely!!! All of our haunted houses have massive indoor queue lines to keep people out of the rain. So don’t worry about that at all. The outside portions of The 13th Gate are subject to close due to bad weather. If so, it will be posted at the entrance.

How long does it take to go through?

A: All of our haunted houses take from 30-45 minutes to go through.

Does your attractions have security?

A: Our attractions have a fully trained security staff that keeps things running smoothly. We also have several BR Sheriff Deputies and Fire personal on duty at all times.

Do you have live Rats, Roaches, Snakes and Other Critters?

A: Yes, but none of them will be in direct contact with you.

How are your haunted houses different from others I've seen?

A: Please see: About 13th Gate

Is it the same as last year?

A: Absolutely not. The show changes every year, although we do keep some of the more popular scenes. We have a full time professional staff that work all year on the haunted house.

Is it better than last year?

A: Refer to the above question. (But yes, we think so.)

Do you sell food, beverages and souvenirs at your attractions?

A: Yes! We sell everything from glow sticks to food to T-shirts.

Can we take flash photos or video of your haunted houses?

A: NO! Haunted houses are dark and everyone especially the actors eyes adjust to the low light. When you flash your camera you’re not only ruining other customers' experience but your hurting the actors' eyes. Also no other recording devices are allowed (video cameras, etc,...).

Can I hit the actors, take the props, destroy the rooms, or come through the haunt drunk or stoned?

A: You should ask the police on duty this question. Every night (without fail) we have to escort someone (and their group) out of our haunts into the arms of the police. We do not allow foul language, pushing, vulgar behavior, weapons of any kind, alcohol, etc. We have a list of rules just like any other business that must be adhered to for your own safety. Please go through the haunt in a civilized manner and everyone (including yourself) will have a great time.

You didn't answer my question.

A: If you have questions we didn't answer, e-mail us at info@midnightproduction.com and we will respond as soon as we can. If enough people ask the same question (or we just think it's an incredibly swell question) we add it to the FAQ list.
